Software developers in Vietnam ahead of the rest
On December 15th, it became law for all motorcyclists in Vietnam to wear a crash helmet. With over 500,000 motorcycles in Vietnam and 12,000 fatalities a year it is a law that frankly is well overdue. Helmets are expensive compared to average wages in the country and enforcing this type of law is difficult as a result. Large numbers of motorcyclist will use the old style pith helmet or buy cheap plastic helmets thinking they will be protected. Sadly they won’t.
For Harvey Nash who employ over 2500 software developers and business process outsource staff in Hanoi and HCMC, keeping our talent safe is a priority. We have commitments to our clients in the UK, Europe, USA and Asia. Mind you Honda, one of our oldest clients should be doubly pleased, they have supplied nearly 50% of the motorcycles in Vietnam.
So Santa visited early!
Every member of our Vietnam team received a high quality crash helmet as a gift from Harvey Nash so that they can fully comply with the new laws. If anyone thinks that Christmas is not celebrated in Vietnam then take a look at the pictures. Walking down the streets of HCMC is better than Oxford Street. Difference is that it is 30 degrees and Santa’s in a tee shirt!

Me, well I will put on my new crash helmet and go buy my wife a Christmas present. I will probably need it even more on Christmas day when I discover it is the wrong size (I always size up the shop assistants to get a rough comparison). Then I will need it again after Christmas for a visit to the returns department. Don’t know why I buy anything in the first place but it is the thought that counts!
