On your marks……

With major life sciences companies going through a period of change, it is no wonder that there is some hesitation when it comes to hiring. Let’s face it though, it is critical now more than ever to ensure the best people are in place ready to make and implement the decisions that will take organisations through this downturn and on to survival.

Whilst the small to mid size biotechs struggle to win funding in the current climate, many larger pharmaceutical companies, who let’s not forget were restructuring before the economic downturn, are now diversifying leaving them less exposed to the challenges of future patent expirations. The life sciences sector will always survive in some shape or form because, to put it simply, people need good healthcare and good healthcare relies on good medicines.

The next 12 to18 months will be eventful, yet the smart businesses will drive through the recession by capitalising on every opportunity made available to them. From redirecting resources to therapeutic areas considered more likely to reap rewards, to employing and retaining top talent ensuring they feel valued, motivated and inspired – the race is on to stay ahead of the game in an uncertain market.
